Gábor Lázár, the visionary artist associated with the world-leading electronic music label Raster-Media, and Sapporo’s OGASHAKA, who continues to leave his mark on deep underground scenes across Japan, make their hertz debuts.
Lázár is an emblematic figure in experimental music since the 2010s. Building on the digital glitch house and techno of contemporary electronic music pioneer Mark Fell, he develops rhythmic sounds that expand rhythm’s physical and bodily possibilities. His sound is austere and minimal, yet suffused with a lustrous organic quality. It beautifully holds together its presence as sound in itself and its force as music that engulfs a dance floor.
Also joining the event is Sapporo-based DJ OGASHAKA, whose sets have made a powerful impression at deep underground spaces across Japan. His approach brings out electronic music’s abstract yet sharply defined rhythmic cuts.
Alongside Gábor Lázár and OGASHAKA, the lineup brings together artists whose experimental sounds move between noise and techno, crossing the boundary between the inorganic and the organic.
Gábor Lázár
In 2015, Mark Fell & Gábor Lázár released The Neurobiology of Moral Decision Making through The Death Of Rave. It was ranked eleventh in Rolling Stone’s list of the best avant-garde albums of 2015.
Since then, Lázár has released work on celebrated labels including Planet Mu, Shelter Press, The Death Of Rave and Presto!?, and earned acclaim at leading events around the world, including MUTEK, CTM Festival, Berlin Atonal, Unsound Festival and Rewire Festival.
OGASHAKA
Based in Sapporo, OGASHAKA develops a singular psychedelic sound, gentle yet deeply potent, and continues to leave a vivid mark on significant underground events throughout Japan.
Waves of sharply angular, granular sound, carrying a sense of glitch, create experimental dance music that can verge on noise. His sets transform the dance floor into a warped, swamp-like space.
